DESIGNER and environmental campaigner Dame Vivienne Westwood appeared on BBC London Radio this morning to reiterate her plea that shoppers should stop buying clothes. Firmly wearing her environmentalist's hat she asserted that people shouldn't buy clothes unless they absolutely had to - and ideally should refrain from buying anything at all for at least six months.
Westwood, who has this morning lent her voice to the Mayor's climate change campaign for London maintained that shoppers should only invest in quality pieces that would last in order to avoid unnecessary waste. Westwood has made this plea before more than once - and despite having collections at her disposal often wears the same dress to events to lead by example.
"We all have a part to play and if you engage with life, you will get a new set of values, get off the consumer treadmill and start to think and it is these great thinkers who will rescue the planet," Westwood says in her advice for the London climate change campaign.
Vivienne Westwood will show her Red Label collection on Sunday 21 February in London and her Vivienne Westwood collection in Paris on Friday March 5.
Nice idea but speaking as a teenage girl with 2 and a half wardrobes, a girl can never have too many clothes! I do understand where she is coming from tho so i have started customising my old clothes, being a student, its a great way to save money and still have new clothes :)
